A single implant is used when only one tooth is missing and needs to be replaced. A single implant consists of the implant itself, an abutment, and an implant retained crown. All three parts complete the single implant procedure. First an implant is placed into the area of the jaw where the tooth is missing. The implant is covered over with tissue and is given time to integrate into the jaw bone. After approximately 3 to 6 months the implant in uncovered and fitted with an abutment. The abutment will act as the anchor between the implant and the crown. Once the abutment is fitted a custom crown is made and attached to the abutment. Implants are a fantastic restoration with the longest life expectancy of any dental restoration currently available. That means Implants can last a lifetime.
