Star Wars Day – Smile Train

Recently, the Surprise Dental & Denture doctors and staff held a charity event for “Smile Train.” Smile Train is a world renowned charity which provides free surgeries for children born with cleft palate.

Star Wars Day was a huge success

To make the charity event fun for adults and children alike, the event was celebrated as a “Star Wars” themed day. Star Wars Day was a huge success. All the staff dressed like iconic Star Wars characters. There were games for the kids, a black jack table for adults, complete with Princess Leia dealer, and a putting green helmed by Han Solo himself. (aka, Dr. Jason Melashenko.) The entire crowed cheered on the kids as they participated in R2D2 races to win various prizes.

One of the highlights of the event occurred when authentically dressed Star Wars characters appeared in costume and posed for pictures with attendees. There was a Stormtrooper, two Jedi warriors, and a Jawa. LucasFilm, the original company that created “Star Wars,” approved the event as “officially sanctioned.”

Several local businesses also donated to the Star Wars themed event. The Disabled Veterans of America made an honored appearance, to the crowds delight with a sizable donation of their own. Surprise Dental & Denture is proud to report the event raised enough money to pay for four children to receive the much needed cleft palate surgeries.
